Peptide fundamentals
- Peptides are short chains of amino acids joined by peptide bonds; longer chains become proteins.
- Most research peptides are made by solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS), then cleaved and purified.
- Key properties on a specification: molecular formula and weight, sequence, salt form and net charge.
Handling & storage
- Peptides usually ship lyophilised (freeze-dried) — the stable, long-shelf-life form.
- Reconstitution is a solution-preparation step, not a dose: a mg → mL → mg/mL calculation only.
- Keep lyophilised vials cold, dry and dark; reconstituted material is far less stable and cold-chain dependent.
Reading a certificate of analysis
- Identity by mass spectrometry (expected vs observed mass) is the meaningful identity check.
- Purity by HPLC should come with the chromatogram, not just a headline percentage.
- The salt form must be stated — it changes the peptide content per milligram.
- A weak CoA has no named lab, no batch reference and a single unsupported number.

- API

- CoA
- Certificate of Analysis — the document describing a batch’s identity and purity.
- HPLC
- High-performance liquid chromatography — the standard purity method.
- Lyophilised
- Freeze-dried; the stable powder form peptides usually ship in.
- RUO
- Research use only — for laboratory and research use, including in-vivo animal studies; not for use in humans or clinical application.
- Salt form
- The counterion (e.g. acetate) supplied with the peptide; affects content per mg.
